History: A Piece of the Wall

Dallas Contemporary was co-founded in 1978 by Patricia Meadows with the understanding that contemporary artists need to put their work before the public to thrive. By offering area artists a "piece of the wall," D'Art, as the organization was known, brought contemporary art front and center to the Dallas cultural scene. As guests of The Meadows Foundation, Dallas Contemporary has been located on Swiss Avenue for 30 years, from its beginnings in a revitalized Art Deco warehouse to its current stay in dramatic galleries.

In the years since, D'Art became The Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, and is now simply Dallas Contemporary. Area artists continue to be featured in exhibitions, at the Wish! Auction, and in the print program. We have expanded our reach to bring the best of contemporary art from around the world to Texas audiences, and the best of Texas artists to the world.

Your gift to Dallas Contemporary will continue to make this possible for many years to come.
