ART THINK

Art Think™ is an award-winning art outreach program for high school students. The program introduces students in North Texas to contemporary art and promotes critical and creative thinking skills.

A trained instructor will conduct 2–6 interactive sessions in your classroom—leading your students in discussions about art works related to a weekly theme. After the classroom sessions, the program culminates with a field trip to Dallas Contemporary. The program is offered free of charge, and transportation assistance is available for schools with limited budgets.

To register your classes for Spring 2016, please contact: learning@dallascontemporary.org.

ART THINK JR.

Art Think™ Jr. is a youth education program that uses contemporary art to teach critical thinking skills, communication skills and visual literacy to children ages 5–14.

Dallas Contemporary's trained instructors will visit your classroom once a week for three weeks to engage students in a theme-based contemporary art discussion and studio art project. Children will learn to look closely at artworks, justify their opinions based on visual cues and consider multiple points of view as well as work on a concept related art project.

CHIT CHAT

"Bad" Feminisms?: A Discussion on the Art of Sexual Politics with Rachel Middleman, Joan Semmel + Betty Tompkins. Moderated by Alison Gingeras, 2016

WHAT is CHIT CHAT?

By inviting artists to discuss their work and answer questions directly from our visitors, Chit Chat increases dialogue, encourages debate, and stimulates exchange in visual art and culture.

Sponsored by:

THE PATRICA DEDMANFAMILY FOUNDATION

REJECTION

Fight for Ukraine

13 FEBRUARY 2016 @ 6.00 PM

Introductory remarks: 6.00 – 6.15 PM

Film screening: 6.15 – 7.45 PM

Q&A with author Maria Tomak: 7.45 – 8.30 PM

This documentary (2015) reconstructs the dramatic events leading to a two-year armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine. It is based on dozens of interviews with local activists and residents who witnessed the rise of an armed separatist movement in the wake of Euromaidan revolution. The film untangles the web of local elites, oligarchs, separatist militants and Russian undercover agents who each played a role in instigating the conflict. Using archival footage and witness testimonies the film documents an abrupt loss of Ukraine’s sovereign control over its territory and the region’s irreversible slide into the abyss of war.

Nazlı Dinçel. Still from Solitary Acts #5, 2015

NOTE TO SELF

Psychosexual Films of Nazlı Dinçel

19 FEBRUARY 2016 @ 8.00 PM

Note to Self is an evening of visceral and provocative handmade films that explore bodies, acts of the solitary, text, language, visual information, and personal exposure. Nazlı Dinçel’s work reflects on experiences of disruption. She records the body in context with arousal, immigration, dislocation, and desire in juxtaposition with the medium’s material: texture, color, and the passing of emulsion. Her use of text as image, language, and sound addresses the failure of memory and her own displacement within a western society.

Spectacle Society, a collective of Dallas-based artists and curators, presents experimental film, video art, inter-media performance, and other time-based art forms in a cinematic setting. Their ongoing program brings together works by international artists as well as local and regional makers, screening contemporary works alongside those made since the beginning of moving images.

Go! Push Pops 500.000, 2013 in Robert Adanto's The F Word, 2015

THE F WORD

18 MARCH 2016 @ 6.00 PM

Doors open: 6.00 PM

Followed by Q&A with Director Robert Adanto

Robert Adanto's The F Word explores radical “4th wave” feminist performance through interviews with a new generation of feminist artists who use their bodies as subject matter. Because the female body continues to be politicized and policed, and because these artists delve into the fecund territory of female sexuality, self-objectification, and the female form as a site of resistance, many remain marginalized by the mainstream art world.

Dallas Contemporary's exhibition Black Sheep Feminism: The Art of Sexual Politics will be open for viewing before + after the screening.
