DRAG ME TO DC ! presents a collection of multimedia drag performances inspired by the solo exhibition of Francisco Moreno, Historia Sintética. Award-winning, local drag artists Buck Wylde, Faux Q, and Riot Dee Binary will gather to celebrate the duality of identities, Pride Month, and the art of drag-- a tradition whose foundation was laid by Black and Latino performers in secret house parties, balls, and vaudeville acts. Drag is historically underrepresented within institutional spaces, despite the impact it has had on modern pop culture. Throughout the evolution of the practice, regional artists dare to bend the rules of presentation and critique the systems that confine them. Drag as an artistic practice is worthy of presentation and critical engagement within the context of art history.
DRAG ME TO DC ! was organized by Dallas Contemporary's Curatorial Assistant Ryan Semegran and hosted by Faux Q. Tips are encouraged!
