Known for her expansive, abstract canvases that explore nature, the body, and materiality, Pam Evelyn’s work is characterized by dense layers and rich textures, created through an intuitive process that translates her lived experiences into vibrant, dynamic compositions. Evelyn's works are deeply engaged with the legacy of Abstract Expressionism while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility.
Chris Wolston explores the ecstatic potential of form, where decoration becomes a mode of expression and function yields to fantasy. Drawing from Art Nouveau, pre-Columbian symbolism, and architectural excess, Wolston blurs the line between the sculptural and the domestic. Iconic works like his terracotta and Nalgona chairs appear alongside new creations, forming a richly layered narrative that revels in material transformation, bodily gesture, and the wild, seductive force of nature. Featuring lighting and furniture, the exhibition offers a dynamic and immersive expression of Wolston’s evolving practice.

Sunday, 12 October, 2025
Doors: 4:30 PM
Talk: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Free Admission
161 Glass St. Dallas, TX
Sponsored by the Augustus Owen Foundation, this event is the first in a series of education programming at Dallas Contemporary designed promote cross cultural dialog.
Ailbhe Ní Bhriain is an Irish artist working with film, computer generated imagery, collage, tapestry, print and installation. Ní Bhriain’s work is rooted in an exploration of imperial legacy, human displacement and the Anthropocene. These intertwined subjects are approached through an associative use of narrative and a painstakingly crafted visual language that verges on the surreal. She sidesteps directive positions and familiar binaries, exposing instead the layers of ambiguity and contradiction embedded in these fraught issues. The resulting worlds she creates are at once idiosyncratic, irresistible and deeply unsettling. Her work has been exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and regularly involves collaboration with musicians and composers.
Dr. Katherine Brodbeck is the Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art.

"I am continually interested in the way we perceive things in the world around us and the persistent qualities of both beauty and vulnerability in life. As an artist, I am driven to create work that investigates what and how we see by challenging our perceptions, perspectives, and assumptions. My work explores themes of perceptual phenomena, transformation and agency utilizing mediums including light, video, music composition and language. My working methods embrace obscuring the materials within my work, pushing us to reaccess what we first see, and transforming the materials into spaces of reflection and empowerment."
About Carmen Menza
Carmen Menza is an interdisciplinary artist creating fine art and technology-based installations utilizing light, language, interactive software, and music composition. Her work explores themes of time, perception, current political and social climates and human connection.
Her installations have been created for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Dallas Aurora Light & Sound Festival, Meow Wolf, UTSW Clements University Hospital, RO2 Art, Carneal Simmons Contemporary Art, Octavia Art Gallery and more. 161 Glass St. Dallas, TX
Join us for a compelling three-part lecture series presented in conjunction with Dallas Contemporary’s current exhibition, You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry. Each session is facilitated by local Art History professors who delve deeper into the ideas and histories that shape the works on display.
In this second lecture of the series, Amy Freund will address the long history and unpredictable futures of tapestry - as a technical achievement, as a political tool, and as a means of spinning raw animal and vegetable materials into human (and non-human) art.
Amy Freund is an associate professor and holds the Kleinheinz Endowment for the Arts and Education Endowed Chair in art history at Southern Methodist University. She is a specialist in eighteenth-century European art, with particular interests in the history of portraiture and in the visual representation of animals. Her most recent book, Noble Beasts: Hunters and Hunted in Eighteenth-Century French Art, which will appear with Yale University Press in 2026, analyzes the representation of masculinity, animality, and political agency in hunting art.
Coming up:
Tiffany Floyd, Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Art at UNT, will lead subsequent lectures on October 11.

Lecture Series: 'You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry'
Join us for a compelling three-part lecture series presented in conjunction with Dallas Contemporary’s current exhibition, You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry. Each session is facilitated by local Art History professors who delve deeper into the ideas and histories that shape the works on display.
In this first lecture, Dr. Lori Diel will contextualize some of the works in the exhibition through a discussion and consideration of the primacy and sacrality of textiles in the ancient Americas and Latin America.
Lori Boornazian Diel is the L.H. Favrot Professor of Humanities in the Department of Art History at Rice University. Her teaching focuses on the art of ancient and colonial Latin America, while her research considers how visual works created by Aztec artists in the years after the Spanish invasion and imposition of Hispano-Christian rule could be used as tools of persuasion, reconciliation, and identity formation under a colonial system. Her second book, The Codex Mexicanus: A Guide to Life in Late Sixteenth-Century New Spain (2018), was awarded the Roland H. Bainton Prize from the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference. Her most recent book, Aztec Codices: What They Tell Us about Daily Life (2020), uses images from Aztec codices to explain different facets of life in Aztec society. Diel has also published essays that consider specific Aztec pictorial manuscripts as well as the role of women in Aztec history.

Every fall, we proudly host our annual gala, a festive evening that raises essential operating funds for the museum. These funds are crucial for us to continue presenting cutting-edge contemporary art through our exhibitions, performances and public programs—all offered with free admission.
We want to celebrate with you—our vibrant community that brings life to every opening, program and exhibition. Following DC's 2025 Gala, we will keep the celebration going with an afterparty hosted by Shyboy, the soon-to-open hi-fi bar redefining Dallas nightlife. From 10:00 PM to midnight, Shyboy will transform DC’s own generous space into an immersive experience.
The evening will feature a live set by GE-OLOGY, the Brooklyn-based record collector, house & disco DJ legend, and acclaimed producer for the likes of Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul, and Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon). Shyboy will serve its signature hi-balls, craft cocktails, and soft-serve ice cream throughout the night.
All ticket sales from the After Party directly sustain Dallas Contemporary’s mission to advance the discovery and appreciation of the art of this moment and to foster innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts.
By attending the gala, bidding in our auction, celebrating at the after party or making a donation, you’re not just supporting an event—you’re investing in the future of Dallas Contemporary.
