Containers & “Can Scans” by Matthew Brandt is a compelling series of unique C‑prints that redefines the boundaries of photographic materiality and subjecthood. Each of the 17 works—entitled “Container” plus its numeral—was submerged in its own depicted liquid (from mundane cleaning agents to lake water), allowing the subject’s chemical essence to mediate its visual transformation and forge an intimate interplay between image and material . Through this experimental, alchemic process, Brandt emphasizes photography not as a static representation but as a living artifact that questions the very nature and authenticity of the medium.
