Now in his late 60s, Joey Terrill continues to create deeply personal work that reflects on queer Chicano identity, survival, and joy. His recent paintings blend pop aesthetics with intimate details—like HIV medications and nostalgic scenes from pre-AIDS gay life—transforming the everyday into symbols of resilience. After retiring from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Terrill is revisiting earlier projects like Chicos Modernos and engaging in public talks, embracing his role as a cultural elder and advocate.
